GUWAHATI: The celebration of Dussehra symbolises the victory of good over evil and remembers how Lord Rama defeated the demon Ravana in the Ramayana. Along with the rest of the country, this festival was celebrated in multiple locations in the state of Assam as well. Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma also took part in the Dussehra celebrations in the capital city.

Dussehra was also celebrated in the Sonitpur district of the state. The local people had created an effigy of the demon Ravana in the playground of the Dikrai tea garden in the Jamuguri region. The International Hindu Parishad and the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal led the Dussehra celebrations in the region at the Dikrai tea garden field. A large number of participants took part in the celebrations signifying the victory of good over evil and they prayed for the removal of evil and misfortune from the entire country.

The celebrations were undertaken by the Sonitpur and Biswanath district units of the Bajrang Dal and saw the presence of thousands of local people. The organisers reportedly set up a 45-foot-tall effigy of Ravana, which was set on fire on the occasion of Dussehra.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took part in the Dussehra celebration held in Nehru Stadium of Guwahati on Wednesday, alongside large crowds assembled there. He also visited the Kachomari Ghat located in the Fancy Bazar region of the city to view and take stock of the idol immersion taking place in the location. His wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, also accompanied the CM. Dussehra celebrations took place in North Guwahati and Nehru Stadium. The celebration in the Nehru Stadium of Guwahati also included a 3D holographic show for the entertainment of the crowds. A musical sand art show by artists Nitish Bharati & Ravan Dahan was also a part of the show along with the usual Ravan Dahan.
